My earliest shows go back to 1983 - few were recorded and none exist today. My time
slot was 4-8am Thursday mornings and the walk to the station was generally cold and very
quiet. The following year I had a two-hour time slot on Monday's from 8-10am. Five shows
remain and are presented here. They have been remastered from a stereo source encoded with
dbx and sound better today than when first aired. This series was followed the next year
as 'Things Break' in 1986 - again on KANM. By then I was a day manager at the station and
had an even better time slot...though I had to cover a few shifts at random when someone
was sick or otherwise failed to show up. These shows are being remastered to host on Live
365 in the coming months.
After graduating from A&M, I moved to Los Angeles and began co-hosting a show
with Charles Gates - first in Pomona, California on KTSJ and then in Anaheim, California
on KPZE. We had an opportunity to integrate local and touring artist interviews into the
show and even hosted a Christian dance at Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland. Recorded live
in 1987 and 1988 as broadcast on KTSJ (3 shows) and KPZE (quite a few more), 'Off The
Record' is being remastered and will also be heard on Live 365 sometime in the near
future... Interviews with John Covell, Crazed Bunnyz, Undercover, and many other artists
appear in these segments.
Then, in 1989, ACM Journal was created to provide a resource to dj's, youth
pastors, and others looking for obscure and hard-to-find independent Christian artists in
a pre-internet age. For three years we listed bands, shared industry news, interviewed
artists, and introduced emerging bands on three compilation cd's. After 10 issues, 3 cd's,
a clear vinyl single, several regional concerts, and several thousand subscribers
worldwide we transitioned our readers to True Tunes, Pure Rock Report, Notebored, and
other alternative magazines at the time. Issues of ACM Journal are now online at www.acmjournal.net and copies of the cd's
occasionally turn up online. I've also heard these played on Jeani Bond's 'Regeneration Radio' here on Live
365.
